We recently just had the most fantastic week in Sanur, Bali and having had my fair share of holidays in the likes of Canggu, Kuta, Seminyak and Uluwatu, I was very ready for a calm, family week in Sanur. Whilst doing my research for where to stay in Sanur, I came across Bali Beach Hotel and knew it was the place for us. Especially as booking.com had a flash sale on, so we got a great rate!
Our stay was perfect, especially with a 6 month old baby. The resort was beautiful, ideally located and with just the best swimming pool setup.

Overview
Location
Bali Beach Hotel is located in Sanur beach, right in the heart of the beach promenade.
Sanur itself has a longer history than most of Bali’s beach towns. Its Pura Blanjong temple houses a stone pillar inscribed in 914 AD, which is one of the oldest written records of Balinese history. Sanur was also the landing site for the Dutch military invasion in the early 1900s, and later where Japanese troops arrived during WWII.
In the 1950s and 60s, Sanur began to develop as Bali’s first tourist hotspot, drawing artists, writers and early jet-setters. With that, the Bali Beach Hotel was opened in 1966 as the first large hotel built for tourism in Bali. You’ll spot that the hotel is unusually tall compared to other structures in Bali. In fact, it is it is the only building on the island allowed to exceed the traditional height limit (no taller than a coconut tree). This rule was introduced after it was built. The hotel underwent a huge renovation that took three years, before re-opening in 2024.
Sanur is located on Bali’s southeast coast, which is about a 30–40 minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in the south. It’s roughly 45 minutes to an hour from Ubud and a similar time to Uluwatu.
On foot, you can easily walk to ICON Bali and dozens of beachfront cafes and restaurants with 10-20 minutes from the hotel.
Review of Bali Beach Hotel
First Impressions
Well, what can I say. Approaching by car, you’re greeted with a long staircase descending into what can only be described as the most magnificent and unusual entry to a lobby I’ve ever seen. Stone walls, marble statues and beautiful lighting – honestly, it’s quite unlike any hotel. The architects did an incredible in the re-design. We were greeted by some of the team and led to comfortable seats to wait for check-in.
Whilst waiting for our room to be ready, we headed straight to the pool to cool off. And wow, what a beautiful hotel pool. So spacious in the water, with a perfect water temperature. We visited in June, and the cool breeze that came off the ocean made time spent at the pool area so enjoyable.
The room
We had a regular Deluxe Room, with a stunning ocean view on the 8th floor. Because of the smart design of the hotel, all rooms face the ocean and all have balconies. Just wonderful to wake up for sunrise and step onto your balcony each morning.
The room was furnished with gorgeous wooden Balinese furniture with super comfortable beds. We loved the glass wall to the bathroom and it was fun to watch the other bathe our little one and wave at him.
Bali Beach Hotel delivered a Nuna travel cot to our room, as well as a great baby bath.
There are quite a few other room categories at Bali Beach Hotel, so it’s well worth checking what’s in your budget and whether an upgrade might be worth it.
Facilities at the hotel
For a hotel of this size, it’s quite amazing that the pool never felt busy, nor did we ever struggle for sun loungers. No matter what time of day we headed to the pool. there were always plenty of spots available. Some in the baking sun, and some under the trees on the grass. Normally I’d be a bit concerned that there’s only pool in a hotel of this size, but it just wasn’t a problem.
As you’ve likely gathered, we really loved the pool. At one end is a shallow baby area seperated by mini rope buoys, and there were a row of sun loungers here for sitting with little people. We loved sitting here, as directly behind was an extensive set of pathways going around the hotel lawns. Ideal for getting our 6 month down for his naps in the pram!
They had a great flag system to get the attention of the pool staff and we enjoyed so many delicious poolside snacks and drinks during our stay. It was honestly so relaxing and just a lovely pool setup.
By the pool is also the kids club and the gym, perfectly located for checking in on your kids or grabbing a workout with a view. This is also the spot to hire bikes, which is complimentary for hotel guests.
Lastly, there is a beautiful spa and wellness centre but to be totally honest, we instead got full body Balinese massages on the beach for a fraction of the cost (IDR 1,000,000/ £4)!
Food and drink
We really enjoyed everything we ate at Bali Beach Hotel. Particularly the breakfast buffet spread on offer each morning at its main restaurant Roso. It was an amazing mix of Western and Asian dishes, with excellent coffee and juices to boot. There were also lunch and dinner menus in there too.
There is also Arunika, a beautiful all-day dining spot by the pool that also does lively Sunday brunches with great live music.
In the evenings, the beach bar is set up for a delicious feet-in-the-sand dining experience although sadly we didn’t make it to that either with a little one!
The staff and service
The team working at Bali Beach Hotel were so lovely, especially the pool staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful with our 6 month old, and even brought us ice buckets to keep his bottles cool.
